A MUSIC scheme aimed at transforming the lives of young people celebrated its year with two days of Christmas concerts.

Big Noise Govanhill staged the performances at the Glasgow Elim Church yesterday and on Tuesday.

More than 200 children from local schools joined adults from the Del Mundo Orchestra – Big Noise Govanhill’s community’s orchestra – for the concerts.

Pupils from St Bride’s, Holy Cross, Annette Street and Cuthbertson primary schools took part, along with pupils from Holyrood Secondary School and Shawlands Academy.

The Sistema Scotland project receives funding from the Scottish Government, and teaches children how to play musical instruments to help them build core skills.

Govanhill team leader Ali Gornall said: “I’m so proud of the focus, commitment and practice our children and adult participants have put into these concerts.”

“I’m also delighted that so many members of the local community have joined us to celebrate those achievements.

“We couldn’t make a Big Noise without the wonderful people of Govanhill.”
