On this day 569 years ago, the University of Glasgow was founded by Papal Bull. The university is now the fourth oldest university in the UK.
Over the past five centuries, the university has fostered the talents of seven Nobel laureates, two Prime Ministers and Scotland’s inaugural First Minister.
It even hosted a lecture by Albert Einstein on the origins of the general theory of relativity.
In 1894, Scotland's first female medical graduates completed their degrees from the medicine school and in 1958, Glasgow Professor Ian Donald published the world's first ultrasound images of a foetus.
The university has undoubtedly covered many milestones over the centuries, and is still keeping up the good work: In 2017, researchers developed a revolutionary technique to aid bone recognition. In September las year, scientists developed a new drug to prevent the spread of malaria.
Happy Birthday, University of Glasgow!
