Scottish comedian Karen Dunbar and Glasgow funk-soul band DopeSickFly will release a new song together next month.

The rap single, titled We Are One, is the result of two years of writing over lockdown.

Dunbar, originally from Ayr, launched a series of online rap workshops during lockdown to help vulnerable people in her community.

After watching DopeSickFly perform at the UEFA Euro fanzone at Glasgow Green in 2021, Dunbar reached out to the band to collaborate on outdoor writing workshops across Glasgow.

The collaboration resulted in her writing and recording her own verse which is featured in the upcoming single.

A spokesperson from DopeSickFly said: "We’re so excited that after two years in the making, We Are One is finally going to be released to the world.

"We’re really proud of this one and delighted that Karen joined us on the track.

"It’s become such a positive tool with Karen continuing to use it in her rap workshops, helping to amplify women’s voices and inspire confidence.”

DopeSickFly are currently producing a free event on December 20, DopeSickFly: We Are One, where there will be a finale performance of the new song with Dunbar and a group of attendees from her workshops.
