A much beloved Renfrew butcher shop has announced its closure after six decades.

A&H Butchers on Fulbar Street took to social media to announce the news in an emotional post.

The decision was made with "great sadness" and a "heavy heart", it was revealed.

In a post on Facebook on Monday, the Renfrew butchers said: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to confirm that today is my last day of trading.

"Unfortunately my health has dictated its time to hang up my knives.

"I just want to thank all my customers old and new for their support.

"My 62 years as a butcher has been a pleasure to serve Renfrew and I wish you all the very best for the future."

The comment section rushed to pay tribute to the store for the years that served the community.

One user said: "Enjoy your retirement, grew up going to this shop throughout childhood, every summer was sent for sausages, tottie scones and black pudding, brilliant times, all the best."

Another said: "My parents were customers and so followed on my husband and I! Always the best quality products! Best square sausage and beef olives ever, but not only that, I always enjoyed the wee natter and laughs every time I was in."

Whilst one post added that the butchers reminded them of growing up in the town before moving away.

They said: "Living in England I don’t get to come as often as I’d like, but your square sausage I’ve been enjoying since my nan brought me up as a young lad and it’s the best I’ve ever had.

"In the last couple of years, I’ve stocked up whilst been up there and I’m really going miss that on my next visit to Renfrew."
