EMERGENCY services raced to the M8 this morning following reports of a vehicle on fire.
Traffic Scotland reported the vehicle was on fire on the hatch markings at Junction 24 westbound at Helen Street in Govan.
Lane one of the motorway is closed as a result and smoke was blowing across the carriageway, causing an issue for other drivers.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson confirmed two fire engines were in attendance after the blaze was reported around 6.48am.
The fire has been extinguished and fire crews left the scene around 7.21am.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Lane one has reopened but traffic is queueing for around nine miles with a 50 minute travel time.
This is also affecting traffic on the M74 northbound back to Junction 4.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.50 am on Tuesday, March 22, police were informed of a car on fire on the M8 just before the Junction 25 westbound.
"There were no reports of anyone injured.
"SFRS were contacted to deal with fire and Traffic Scotland to deal with lane restrictions."
