The summer bird box-making sessions in East Dunbartonshire proved to be a success.

Around 70 bird boxes were built by volunteers, kids and adults alike, who came along to the drop-in sessions which were organised by the council’s Streetscene Technical Support.

Supported by the Countryside Rangers, the workshops were designed to support local biodiversity and increase awareness as well as provide a fun activity for children during the school holidays.

Almost 200 people attended the events which took place at spots including Cairnhill Wood in Bearsden, Merkland Local Nature Reserve and Luggie Park, Kirkintilloch, Meadowburn Park and Kilmardinny Loch Local Nature Reserve, Bearsden.

Councillor Paul Ferretti, Convener of the PNCA committee, said, "Our birdbox building workshops are hugely popular and this summer our Streetscene team was able to increase the number of events across East Dunbartonshire.

“In addition to producing homes for the local bird population, these fun sessions help to engage and enthuse our young people with native wildlife and their local environment.

"The workshops are just one of the ways that our Council is demonstrating our commitment to enhancing biodiversity across East Dunbartonshire.”
