Anas Sarwar headed to the South of Glasgow to speak to locals about a range of issues this week.

The Scottish Labour leader visited Home-Start Glasgow South, an organisation that works closely with Save the Children to deliver immediate cash grants to local families, to chat to children and parents about issues that are important to them.

Many of the families spoke about challenges around access to services, life as a parent and the difference that organisations like Home-Start Glasgow South and Save the Children have made to their lives both practically and emotionally, and for some, financially.

Glasgow Times:

Anas Sarwar, said: "It was a delight to visit Home Start in Pollokshaws today to speak to the families and the volunteers.

“The service that Home-Start provides is invaluable and makes such a difference to so many lives.

“Thanks to Home-Start, children and young families get the support they deserve."

Colette Boyle, director at Home-Start Glasgow South, said: We really enjoyed having Anas visit our Warm Place today. Local parents and carers come along for a cuppa, a chat, for advice and most importantly to build relationships in the community.

“We have been supporting local families on low-income in the south of Glasgow since 2000 and we’re pleased Anas took the time to engage with parents and their children and find out more about the work we do with Save the Children to give children the best possible start in life.”

Save the Children works with children, families and partners in communities across Scotland to challenge poverty, campaign to tackle and prevent the drivers of poverty and lessen its impact on children and families.

Fiona King, policy and public affairs manager at Save the Children, said: “This year has been tough for so many families, and the winter period makes things even harder with families telling us they are struggling more than ever as cost-of-living pressures continue to bite.

“With one in four children living in poverty in Scotland, our partnership work with Home-Start has never been so important. We work alongside Home-Starts across the country to provide cash grants to families who need it most.

“Today’s event at Home-Start Glasgow South gave families the opportunity to speak with Anas about their own experiences of having a young child and touch on issues that are most important to them.”
