A golf club is seeking permission to demolish a cottage on its course in Milngavie and build a small tourist development on the site.

Hilton Park Golf Club has requested planning approval from East Dunbartonshire Council allowing it to tear down Cedar Cottage and construct three holiday cabins.

In supporting documentation submitted as part of the application, it is explained that Cedar Cottage, which was built in the 1970s, was formerly used as staff accommodation for greenkeepers, but more recently was rented out by the golf club.

However recent repairs did not bring the cottage up to the expected standard and it has since fallen into disrepair due to flooding. The club now wishes to install holiday lets instead, which it believes would attract more visitors to the area, benefiting local businesses.

A club spokesperson said: “The existing large plot presents an ideal opportunity for the transformation of this area into delightful tourist accommodation which enjoys the 36 hole Golf Course and many more attractions in the area.

“The dilapidated Cedar Cottage will be demolished which provides the Golf Club the opportunity of an alternative revenue stream which is sustainable given the location of the cabins and various leisure pursuits within East Dunbartonshire and beyond.”
