A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in Glasgow.

We previously reported that Glasgow City Council said that Shieldhall Road in the city had been closed from the roundabout under the A739 Clyde Tunnel Expressway to Shieldhall Gardens due to an accident.

Now, officers have confirmed they were called to a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the road at 5.30pm on Friday, January 19.

Following the incident, the pedestrian, who was a woman, was taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We received a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian which happened around 5.30pm on Friday, January 19. 

"The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"The road re-opened around 6.10pm."
