THERE has been much talk in the media recently about the “Boris Bridge” or “Boris Tunnel” – a transport connection between Larne in Northern Ireland and Portpatrick in Scotland. I have seen that many politicians and some in the media are quick to slam this idea as infeasible, and although not an engineer myself, I can’t help but ask myself why so many are quick to jump to conclusions before a single brick has been laid or feasibility study completed.
LAST Thursday councillors from across our city set Glasgow’s budget in the City Chambers – and it was a complete horror show. The backdrop of this was the £50,000,000 that the Scottish Government have cut from our budget forcing all parties to make incredibly difficult decisions.
ONE of the most important things we do as elected members in Glasgow is setting a budget for our city each year.
IN 2016 I voted to leave for three key reasons – Control over our money, control over our borders and control over our laws. I felt passionately, and still do, that the EU project was heading in the wrong direction and that the United Kingdom was better placed outside its institutions.
I HAVE always classed myself as a Blue Collar Conservative. I was brought up in the South Side of Glasgow with both my parents being public servants and often times they struggled to make ends meet.

SATURDAY’S independence march proved to be another example of “Civic and Joyous Nationalism” with a dash of hate speech and online abuse. For those who haven’t seen, banners held by Siol nan Gaidheal (a known crypto-fascist group) included phrases such as “Tory Scum Out” and “End London Rule”.
I HOPE that everyone had a brilliant Christmas and New Year. Mine was spent surrounded by family and friends watching Des Clarke on BBC One and desperately wishing that Jackie Bird was in the wings ready to take over.
