THE dad of a Two Doors Down star revealed he was caught up in a horror blaze at a factory 100 yards from his home.
999 crews raced to a fire at the Fenix Battery recycling plant in Kilwinning on Monday evening.
John Stevely, whose son is Grado aka Alan in the BBC sitcom, was sitting in his house in the Byerhill estate when it became engulfed in toxic smoke.
The 66-year-old told the Scottish Sun: "I was just sitting my watching the tele and I could see people kept passing my window.
"Because it was late I popped my head out to see what was happening and I just seen the flames and smoke and the smell was terrible.
"Then the banging started and it went on for four hours."
Residents said the street became "like a war zone" as exploding battery casings created massive banging noises which could be heard for miles.
While fire chiefs urged locals to evacuate, John decided to stay in his home.
He added: “I was happy just staying in the house but that banging of the fireworks went on all night."
Area Commander Jim Quinn said: “We continue to work with the recycling centre and partner agencies to minimise the disruption to the local community and will continue to provide updates.
“While smoke continues to be visible, we would ask that residents remain at home, and keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
“If travelling through smoke, motorists should keep windows closed, turn off air conditioning and keep their air vents closed.”
