There comes a moment in the summer holidays when even the most indulgent parents start to feel the pressure of having to keep the children happy and entertained, without spending a fortune.

Glasgow always has loads of free fun on offer, with its wonderful parks and museums, but next weekend has something new and different on offer – and it’s all free, so get those dates in your diary.

Great Western Retail Park is renowned for fabulous shopping and lots of family friendly eating places and from Friday 3rd August to Sunday 5th August it’s also being transformed into a wonderful activities’ hub, with something for all ages.

It’s situated close to very family orientated and residential areas and is always a popular destination for those locals as well as visitors coming from much further afield. The wide range of shops attract everyone, from those doing their weekly supermarket run to bargain hunters, pet lovers, people looking for furniture and carpets and DIY experts.

Glasgow Times:

The activities over the weekend run from 11 to 3pm each day, with Challenge Friday kicking off with some seriously sporty stuff, including a bungee bounce for age 5+, climbing wall for age 7+ and archery for all ages. Alongside the energetic activities are the gentler summer crafts for all ages and a face painter, ready to transform you into someone completely different.

Saturday August 4 is all about chilled summer fun, including giant deck chair selfies for all ages, summer crafts and music acts and a stilt-walker to enchant you, with the face painter making a second appearance.

Face painting makes another appearance at Sports Challenge Sunday August 5, with the climbing wall and archery back in action. This is a particularly busy day, as these are also joined by crafts, foot challenge, balloon modelling and bungee pad jumpers.

Great Western Retail Park is really easy to reach by car, train and bus, and this event is obviously particularly accessible for local residents.

The nearest train station to the park is Drumry, which is just a few hundred metres from the Retail Park across the A82 and there are a number of bus stops on the A82 both Eastbound and Westbound on Great Western Road adjacent to the Retail Park.  See www.travelinescotland.com  for more information

Glasgow Times:

Driving is equally straightforward, especially as there’s plenty of free parking. The park is easy to find on Great Western Road, but if you put G15 8TB in the Sat Nav that will ensure a smooth arrival in plenty of time for fun and games.

You can make this a real family event by making a day of it, including any necessary shopping while also keeping children well entertained and happy with a range of fun activities which will please every last one of them.

Best of all, every activity is free, which means you could possibly stretch to lunch in the middle of the fun, or after they’re all worn out and ready to relax. Summer is coming to Great Western Retail Park – make the most of it. See www.greatwesternretailpark.co.uk
