This week Yelp Glasgow takes you to far away shores with a selection of sushi. Commonly misunderstood, sushi actually refers to the rice, presented in many different ways such as wrapped in seaweed with a meat, fish or vegetable filling. And then there's sashimi - raw seafood served in bite sized pieces.
Cailin's Sushi, 1136 Argyle Street, Glasgow West End G3 8TD
You'll find ready-to-go sushi boxes here, made fresh for you. Elizabeth F also spied some 'sushi party boxes made up of loads of sushi from £19.99' and her top tip is to pick some up and have a picnic in Kelvingrove.
Fantoosh Fish, 537 Great Western Road, Glasgow West End G12 8HN
This West End fish shop also does sushi - or as they call it, fantooshi! They serve it up already packaged and ready to go, so it's perfect to drop in and pick up a healthy lunch.
Ichiban, 50 Queen Street, Glasgow City Centre G1 3DS
Lauren C has a habit of visiting here every time she's off to a gig and says the 'plate of noodles is roughly the same dimensions as a human head!' They also have sushi platters meaning you can get a platter to share between the table and a vegetarian option.
Nanakusa, 441 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow City Centre G2 3LG
Yelper Jenna C loves the fresh sushi here and says if you're feeling adventurous 'there are loads of different types of raw fish besides your usual tuna and salmon nigiri - eel and octopus among them.' She also recommends that you 'tuck in with some sake and enjoy.'
Nippon Kitchen, 91 West George Street, Glasgow City Centre G2 1PB
Karen N found it 'hard to choose as I love Japanese food!' She settled on a seafood bento box to get a sample of everything and found that the 'portions were generous and good value'. The sushi is prepared fresh to order at the custom sushi bar.
Sapporo Teppanyaki, 2-6 Ingram Street, Merchant City, Glasgow G1 1HA
If you like action while you're eating, then Sapporo is the place for you. You'll dine around a hot plate and may be required to catch food in your mouth! Sharon M went for sushi as her starter - smoked trout, which she describes as 'plain but not bland - I could have eaten my weight in it'.
Shilla, 1138 Argyle Street, Glasgow West End G3 8TD
Glasgow's only Korean restaurant also dishes up sushi - Lex G tried the lobster temaki, and eel nigiri and described both as 'fresh and delicious'. Why not try the sushi for starter and then dive into some Korean dishes for main, like the dak gal bi - chargrilled chicken with Korean style rice cake, sweet potato and vegetables.
Wudon, 535 Great Western Road, Glasgow West End G12 8HN
With a menu featuring sushi and sashimi as well as lots of small plates you can have a sample of everything. Raw selections feature salmon whereas sushi includes fillings such as crabsticks, chicken, eel, scallop and tofu.
Yo Sushi, House of Fraser Buchanan Street, Glasgow City Centre G1 3HL
This place certainly knows how to entertain! As Martyn M says, 'they have a conveyor belt running through the restaurant so you just take things off as and when you want them!' All hot food is cooked to order and if you arrive at the right time, you'll even get to see the sushi chef dicing up the fish.
Yokoso, 302 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow City Centre G2 3JA
Sara T likes this for a late night option that 'isn't a kebab'. The menu features a wide range of sushi and bento boxes with both seafood and vegetarian options. Sara T says that the 'katsu curry is very tasty' if you're after something meatier than sushi.
