FIRE crews battled for two hours to control a blaze which threaten to engulf a historic community hall in Glasgow last night.
Partick Burgh Hall suffered severe smoke damage when a fire broke out in the building at 6pm yesterday.
A dance class was being held at the venue at the time and more than a dozen people were evacuated.
Five five crews, some wearing breathing apparatus, attended the scene at the height of the incident.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said: "The quick actions of fire crews ensured that the damage was limited.
"Once the fire was under control, crews carried out ventilation within the main hall of the building which was heavily smoke logged."
The building dates back to 1872 and underwent an £800,000 refurbishment in 2004.
