NACHO NOVO today confirmed he's staying at Rangers to fight for his place - despite the imminent arrival of several new front men.

The Spanish striker has already seen Jean-Claude Darcheville and Alan Gow arrive. And boss Walter Smith is pursuing Kilmarnock's Steven Naismith, Wigan's Lee McCulloch, Bordeaux right midfielder Julien Faubert and PSV speed man DaMarcus Beasley.

But Novo will enter the final season of his four-year deal at Ibrox intent on battling it out - just like he did last year when he came in from the cold to change former boss Paul Le Guen's mind.

He said: "I have one year left on my contract and I've spoken to Walter. I think he wants me to stay for 12 months at least.

"I understand he has to build a new Rangers, but I am not in a hurry to make any decisions.

"In January, under the contract rules, I can do what I want and sign for someone else, if that comes up. But I'll wait and see what happens.

"I want to play football. But I also love Rangers, and living in this country. I know they will bring more attacking players in - but I don't care.

"I think I showed last year I can still contribute at Rangers, and I'll be looking to do the same again.

"Every player at Rangers has to respond when new signings come in and I'm no different."

Novo would prefer to be given the chance to play through the middle, the position he occupied in his first season after moving from Dundee.

But he knows that, with a plethora of options likely to be at Smith's disposal, he may have to be shuttled around again.

Currently taking his B' licence coaching course at Largs, he added: "I do like to play through the middle. I felt that was my best run when I played there with Dado Prso.

"I've not had many chances to team up with Kris Boyd. And I also don't know how we will play next season."
