BUSINESSMAN John Fortune-Fraser was due to be awarded an MBE today in the Queens Birthday honours list for outstanding contributions to industry and charity.
The 80-year-old industrialist and entrepreneur is chairman of Kilsyth-based Tube Developments Ltd, one of the world's largest private steel stockholders, a company he founded in 1969.
Originally from Govan, Mr Fraser left school aged 14 with no qualifications to work an apprenticeship at Clydeside Shipbuilders before setting up his own company.
The global success of the company was due to the high levels of expertise, product knowledge and competitive pricing that has seen the firm conduct business across all continents.
Mr Fraser, who lives in Killearn, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be receiving this award from The Queen. I have come quite a journey over these years and feel rather humbled at this experience.
"I must also thank my incredible work force, many of whom have been with me for more than 30 years, we did it together and I am grateful for that."
Mr Fraser is also being recognised for charitable contributions over the last 20 years having served on the Variety Club of Great Britain Scotland Committee.
