LICENSING chiefs have called time on attempts by a Glasow nightclub owner to serve drink to revellers for an extra hour.
Michele Pagliocca wanted the same trading hours for The Shed as rival establishments in other parts of the city but he has been refused the one hour extension to 3am.
The South Side nightclub boss had the backing of some customers and local businesses when he applied to the city's licensing board for a 3am licence.
Revellers had told him they would be happy to stay at his club if an extension was granted rather than leave early for a night spot which is allowed to stay open later.
Mr Pagliocca said he was angry because every club in the city centre has a 3am licence. Oran Mor, in the West End, was granted one five years ago.
He said: "We are deeply frustrated with this outcome and are struggling to understand why our application has been refused.
"A 3am licence is enjoyed by our competitors in both the city centre and the West End.
"The board's decision to limit our operating hours affectively puts The Shed and other South Side businesses, at a clear disadvantage.
"The Shed is a fun nightclub which attracts little to no police attention.
"The level of support we have received from our customers, local residents, businesses and politicians has been overwhelming.
"Our supporters recognise the many social and economic benefits an additional hour of trading could have on the Shawlands area.
"It is extremely disappointing the licensing board has failed to acknowledge those benefits and has disregarded the high volume of community support.
"We look forward to hearing the board's reason for rejecting this submission."
A spokesman for the licensing board defended the decision.
He said: "Although the board's policy is that clubs outwith the city centre can remain open to 2am it is always the case that every licensing application is decided on its own merits. In this case the board was not persuaded to overturn its policy in favour of the applicant.
"The board's policy on opening hours was set last year following an extensive consultation with stakeholders."
