CITY housing associations are to be offered advice on cutting energy bills, tackling fuel poverty and reducing the impact on the environment.
On Thursday, the City Council will host an event in The Lighthouse showing the various affordable warmth programmes available..
A specialist council team will tell an audience of housing associations about cutting edge technology and renewables such as district heating, biomass, projects and programmes for insulating city homes.
The council’s Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme provides interest free loans to help home owners get involved..
The scheme is unique in Scotland because it targets all homes in the city, not just public sector stock and because it helps housing associations by pulling together complex funding packages for affordable warmth projects which could not be accessed otherwise.
has four main objectives.
The aim of the project is to maintain a good supply of quality and sustainable housing, achieved through improving energy efficiency, tackling poverty and deprivation by reducing fuel bills, bringing jobs and investment into the city, reducing Glasgow’s carbon footprint and and tackling fuel poverty
Liz Cameron, the city council's jobs and the economy spokeswoman, said: “Glasgow City Council is providing support for households, housing associations and business across the city through a number of schemes that will benefit many in terms of energy costs and living standards, and all of us environmentally.
"The council’s affordable warmth team has achieved a great deal for Glasgow in recent years and will provide key information for the city’s housing associations at this week’s event.”
It was estimated wall insulation installed as a result of the team’s work saved households in Glasgow around £1.1million on fuel bills in 2014, with an average annual saving of £300 per home.
The team has also reduced the cost of work on owner-occupied homes by up to 90%, as well as securing interest-free loans for the work.
In addition, it has ensured households receive a home energy check by Home Energy Scotland to assess eligibility for further assistance, for example a new boiler. Home Energy Scotland can be contacted on 0808 808 2282
The affordable warmth team is also working with Strathclyde University on a research project measuring the levels of humidity, temperature and moisture in homes before and after the installation of insulation, to illustrate the difference it can make.
