THE Wise Group is seeking memories that will help bring history to life.
The east end social enterprise is based on Charlotte Street in a building that was once, fittingly, home to New Lanark social pioneer David Dale and his family.
It then became part of the Our Lady and St Francis Secondary School - and bosses are now seeking former pupils to tell their stories.
They hope students of the former Catholic school for girls will come forward to share what life was like in the Glasgow City Corporation primary and secondary.
Our Lady and St Francis's Secondary School opened in 1964 and operated as a school until 1989.
The building, incorporating David Dale's house, was designed by Glasgow-based architects Gillespie, Kidd & Coia with the welfare of the pupils in mind.
It now has a grade A Listing which recognises its architectural significance.
Former pupil Sadie Nelson went to the original school on the site to which the current Wise Group building and former Our Lady and St Francis is an extension.
Sadie joined the school aged five in 1943 and left after fifth year, in 1955.
She said: "After school I joined Glasgow Corporation as a clerical assistant in Museums and Art Galleries until I got married in 1962.
"In 1983, after the last of our four children went to school, I returned to work with Glasgow City council as a youth training officer until I retired in 1995.
"Also, I did part time youth work when the children were young. Then went back to study again at Jordanhill for two years and obtained a diploma in community education before starting work in 1983."
Another former pupil who has come forward already to tell her story is Margaret Cruikshanks who started at the school in 1972... and is still there now.
Margaret attended from 1972 to 1977 and left when she found a job with the Post Office as a clerical officer.
But she has since returned to the Charlotte Street site and now works with The Wise Group helping people to fulfil their potential by assisting them back into work.
The Wise Group, which has operated for more than 30 years helping individuals, families and communities, will be opening the building for Doors Open Day on Saturday, September 19 2015.
Bosses say the building has a host of fascinating aspects of historical and architectural significance that they want to show to a wider public.
Laurie Russell, Chief Executive of the Wise Group, said: “The Wise Group’s work, vision and values chime with those of previous inhabitants of Charlotte Street.
"We welcome involvement with Doors Open Day 2015 and the opportunity to share the story of the building with visitors.”
If you would like to get involved to share stories and memories, and any photographs and memorabilia, email Wise Group Marketing Manager Jacqueline Mackenzie at Jacqueline_mackenzie@thewisegroup.co.uk with the information and memories you’d like to share, and a note of a contact telephone number.
