A DRIVER who knocked down and killed a pensioner was today jailed for four years.
Sandeep Singh, 29, was also banned from driving for a decade after being convicted by a jury of causing death by dangerous driving.
The 29-year-old was driving at nearly 50mph in a 30mph zone when he collided with 71-year-old Billy Dunlop in Nitshill Road, Glasgow.
The crash happened on February 20.
Passing sentence at the High Court in Glasgow, Lady Rae said: "Sandeep Singh, you have been convicted of a very serious charge of causing the death of an elderly gentleman by driving dangerously and at a speed well in excess of the speed limit.
"Your position is that you never saw the deceased at any stage and you were aware only of a shadow, shortly before the collision with Mr Dunlop.
"The whole incident was captured on close circuit television footage and, having regard to that evidence, together with collision investigation evidence, I find it incomprehensible that during the journey, up to the fatal impact, at no time did you see Mr Dunlop.
"What makes this case more serious is that you do not have a good driving record. You have a number of convictions for breaching road traffic provisions, two for driving while using a mobile phone, one for failing to obey a traffic light and significantly, one for speeding on a motorway. Here you are speeding again, this time with fatal consequences."
Singh had previously been banned from driving in May 2012.
