Seamus McNulty, 54, a psychiatrist from the area, said: “Local amenities like the cafes, bars and shops are great.

“If anything, the worst thing is empty shops. There shouldn’t be so many. I’m assuming the business rates are too high and that’s why people struggle to maintain businesses.

“Only downside to council services is that we don’t have kerb side recycling of glass, paper and cardboard like houses do.

“I think this is a really high amenity area, they’d struggle to improve it with the resources they have. If anything we should be paying more council tax.

“I don’t think our part of the city needs more in the way of representation, so councillors should focus their efforts on the poorer parts that need it more. Of course I’ll vote.”

Laura Beggan, 37, a stay at home mum from Hyndland:

The best thing about this area is the public transport.

I have young children so the quality of the parks and the nurseries are really important to me too.

On the other hand, the roads and pavements are really bad. There are lots of pot holes and that makes pushing a pram around really difficult. The biggest problem is people don’t know who or where to go to in order to improve things.

Marion McNicol, 56, from Hyndland:

All the local amenities are great.

There are lots of nice shops and it’s a really nice area in general - a lovely place to live.

But rubbish is definitely a problem.

People drop litter and no one picks anything up or cleans up after their pets.

The council should give out on the spot fines for this and I would urge them to just clean the place up.”

Elizabeth Arthur, 71, an admin worker: I have no real complaints except for the bus route being taken away.

It’s lucky we have a train service but the roads near the station make it hard for the elderly to get about.

That’s the main concern for people.

As are the food bins that are left lying out and the rubbish thrown on the street.

The bins are overloaded and don’t get emptied often enough.

I think we’re just so lucky living here in comparison to other areas.

John Peterson, 61, a whisky maker:

Generally it’s a nice place to live apart from the parking, which is appalling.

They’ve changed the parking restrictions and have just funnelled all the traffic problems from Byres Road to this area. They do things without consultation and have just made it worse.

They should ask the local people about what they’re going to do before they actually do it and changes would be a lot more successful.

Will Riddock, 65, an IT consultant:

“I can walk round to all the shops here and there seems to be quite a nice variety of them too.

“The worst thing is definitely the rubbish. I’ve had an increase in council tax and I’ve still got to walk by the rubbish lying in the street every day.

There are big signs up saying no fly tipping and yet it still happens.

“I’ve taken pictures and sent them to the council but there is never any action taken. I think we have the local by-laws that would allow us to take action but there is none.
