CHINATOWN Restaurant was one of the first of the new wave of authentic Hong Kong-style Chinese eateries to open in Scotland.

When it launched a quarter of a century ago, Glasgow's then Lord Provost and dignitaries were among the first customers to test the menu. 

It quickly became a hit - importing much of the produce directly from China and becoming a go-to for authentic cuisine.

The restaurant, which was part of the new Chinatown quarter on New City Road, proved to be hugely popular with Glasgow's Chinese community.

However the Cowcaddens restaurant which opened in 1992 is set to close its doors for the last time next month.

Owners of the family run restaurant have made the difficult decision due to changing tastes of Scotland’s Chinese community and difficult trading conditions.

The building's lease is due to end soon and staff have decided not to renew it.

Chinatown Restaurant's announcement to close the restaurant comes a week after Amber Restaurant on Byres Road closed after 40 years of trading in the West End.
