AN iconic bar in Glasgow’s Bath Street has shut up shop in a shock closure announcement.
Moskito - which has been on the city’s bustling bar scene for almost two decades - revealed on Saturday evening that an offer to sell the bar went horribly wrong.
In a statement, staff said: “About six months ago, we accepted an offer to sell Moskito.
“Unbeknown to us, we accepted an offer from a fantasist and bulls*****r who never came up with the money when it mattered and wasted all our time. They have left us in an impossible position and, unfortunately, we have decided to call it a day.
“It’s been an amazing 18 years and, if you’ve been part of it, you know how amazing it was.
“We would like to thank you from the bottom of our heart for all your incredible support over the years and we leave safe in the knowledge that we had one f****** brilliant party.”
In a warning to punters, staff added: “If we could use this opportunity to say one thing it would be this: local, independent operators are what make a city unique. If you don’t support them, then the city loses its individuality. It’s getting harder and harder for independents to survive and they need your support.

“Crazy rates increases, greedy and unrealistic landlords, vouchers deals and inflated costs will make the business model of pubs redundant shortly.
“So, next time you’re out, think about how you want your city to be in five years.
“What a f****** amazing 18 years. It’s been emotional.”
The Evening Times reported back in June how the popular nightspot had been put on the market.
Commercial real estate agency Smith & Clough were seeking leasehold offers in excess of £375,000.
The closure is the second blow for the bar’s boss Neil Connolly within months after The Dapper Squirrel in Kilmarnock - of which he was co-owner - shut with immediate effect in January after being open for just three months.

Fans of the Moskito were - understandably - left taken aback. One said on social media: “S*** news. Some of the top bar folk of town and the best DJs in the city grafted there. A proper boozer. Good luck to you all. And especially Neil Connolly who has always been a fantastic mentor and peer in the trade.”
Another added: “So upset to read this. You were my local for years when I lived across the block. An institution. Rates increases from a feckless administration, and the creeping threat of soulless chains taking over will kill this beautiful city and its vibe. Really sorry this wonderful establishment is another victim. Good luck with whatever you do next.”
