A woman has been killed and a man is fighting for his life after a car crash near Ballantrae in Ayrshire.
The 50-year-old woman died at the scene after the black Ford Fusion she was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a white Ford Ranger.
The 63-year-old man, who was behind the wheel of the Ford Fusion, was flown by coastguard helicopter to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where his condition is described as "critical".
The crash happened on the A77 at Garleffin Wood, approximately one mile south of Ballantrae.
The road was closed for nine hours after the accident on Saturday.
A 46-year-old man who had been driving the Ford Ranger and his three male passengers were all taken to Ayr Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries, before being discharged.
Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses with Sergeant Ian Thornton, of the divisional road policing unit for Ayrshire stating: "Although a number of people stopped to assist at the crash, we would still appeal for anyone who has not yet spoken to police, who either saw the crash or the vehicles being driven prior to the collision taking place, or indeed have dash-cam footage that may assist our enquiry to come forward."
