EASTERHOUSE could be set for more than 130 houses if plans are agreed later this year.
Merchant Homes want to build 132 two, three, and four-bedroom houses on an empty space behind the Stepford Sports Centre.
It’s after the company secured preferred developer status from Glasgow City Property in 2017, ahead of a proposed land purchase.
If approved, the developer wants to create terraced, semi-detached and detached properties on the plot between Wellhouse, Wardie and Stepford Roads.
A spokesperson for Merchant Homes said: "We are delighted to be moving forward with plans and look forward to receiving the planning decision in due course.”
In its planning statement, Ark Architecture, acting on behalf of Merchant Homes, said: “A high-quality environment is envisaged, with well-designed modern homes, set around attractive and welcoming streets and public spaces.
“Our vision for the development at Stepford Road is to create a new and attractive development for a long-term sustainable future.
“This will have a distinct identity, with pleasant, well-designed spaces, where people will feel safe.
“The open spaces will be designed to be flexible, useful and attractive. They will include areas equipped for play and seating.”
The site was previously home to around 250 post-war council flats with back courts and on-street parking.
But those homes were demolished after being deemed to be in poor condition with the council finding it difficult to rent them out.
Arc Architecture said there would be vegetation and greenery lining the streets of the new estate, with views out to the Cathkin Braes.
A decision on the planning application is expected later this year.
