A CASTLEMILK roup that describes itself as a ‘youth club for the over 55s’ is appealing to the public to help it win the title of UK’s best community project.
The Senior Centre has reached the finals of the National Lottery Awards, an annual search for the public’s favourite lotto funded projects.
The project aims to tackle loneliness and isolation with a range of social activities for the over 55s.
Veteran support charity, Fares4Free, is also in the running for a £5,000 cash prize and a place at a glittering awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on BBC One on September 26.
Glasgow based taxi firms, Southside Cars and Network Private Hire are both charity partners.
Both projects are in the running for Best Voluntary/Charity project, along with five others from around the UK.
Based in Glasgow, Fares4Free is a Scotland-wide charity which asks taxi drivers to give up four fares for free per month for veterans.
Melanie O’Donnell, Manager of The Senior Centre, says: “National Lottery funding has been a lifeline for our project so we are thrilled to be in the finals of the National Lottery Awards.”
To vote go to lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards. Voting runs until midnight on July 27.
