A GLASGOW football team has received brand new strips as a result of sponsorship from its local opticians.

Specsavers stores in Newlands and Buchanan Galleries have sponsored Pollok United 2010’s squad, enabling the team to purchase brand new strips.

The Pollok United 2010 team were welcomed into the Buchanan Galleries store and presented with new strips by top flight Scottish FA referee Euan Anderson.

Sarah Freel, store director at Specsavers Buchanan Galleries, said: "We are delighted to be able to support Pollok United 2010 team which has allowed them to purchase new strips.

"It really means a lot to us as stores to be able to help support the local community as much as we can.

"It was a lovely morning welcoming the 2010 team into store and it was great to see their excited faces as they were presented with their new strips and met Euan.

"We wish them all the best for the upcoming season."

The 2010 team is made up of enthusiastic youngsters aged eight and nine who train weekly on a Tuesday evening at the Dennis Donnelly Park in Glasgow.

The team is part of the Pollok United Soccer Academy, which has a Scottish FA Community Club status, and is committed to providing a pathway from mini kickers to senior football.

Both Specsavers stores also currently sponsor the 2008 team, which also purchased new strips as part of the partnership.
