Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that a deal will be done for Hibs midfielder John McGinn without the move for the 22-year-old dragging.
The Parkhead side have had two bids for the Scotland internationalist knocked back by the Easter Road club, with their last offer of £1.75m significantly short of the £4m valuation that Hibs has placed upon McGinn.
“Between Neil [Lennon] and I, it’s out of our hands," said Rodgers. "It’s with the clubs. Hopefully for everyone’s sake it can be resolved, but it’s above me.
“I’d always have liked to have more in by now but the most important thing was ensuring we kept the players we wanted to stay. The likes of Tom Rogic and these guys.
“Absolutely for sure we need to strengthen, and that will come. It’s only in certain specific areas, it’s not a total overhaul. We’ve been building, developing and growing for the last few years and this will hopefully be another year to do that.
“If we can bring in another number of players that will improve our squad, that will be nice.”
Lewis Morgan missed yesterday's 4-1 win over Standard Liege with a minor knee injury while goalkeeper Craig Gordon sat out because of a wrist injury.
Celtic were slick and fast against Standard Liege with Rodgers warning that the new hybrid surface at Celtic Park will see a better standard of football on offer.
“I think our identity and purpose to our game is always to be very fast and dynamic and very aggressive and when you have a really good, fast pitch then that really supports that way of playing," said the Celtic manager. "It was a big investment by the club, £1.5 million but they get their rewards. The players get their rewards and, importantly for me, the spectators get the rewards. It does help because we want to play a fast game.
“I think you see the difference today when you have a quality playing surface it brings a different level of game. We play a high level technical game but with speed so that supports them in our work. Like I say, it is a credit to the club and our ground staff. That is why we are here to play a brand of football that excites and the pitch supports that.”
