A TALENTED schoolboy has become an indie rock and roll star at the tender age of 11 - and now he is set to play a major music festival making him the youngest person on the bill.
Connor Fyfe, from Bellshill, will take to the stage at Loch Lomond Live, which is a new festival taking place on September 22 and 23.
The event will be the first major music festival on the loch in ten years, and includes headliner Runrig star Donnie Munro.
The festival will also feature a mixture of traditional Scottish music, and up-and-coming indie rock and alternative bands including solo artist Connor.
His festival feat comes a year after Connor began gigging.
His proud mum Tricia, 33, said: “He started gigging properly last August. Someone saw him singing at the YMCA ‘Kidchella’ at the end of summer last year and they said Connor was pretty good.
“He put him in contact with Mick Hargan who runs gigs at King Tuts in Glasgow and he asked Connor to take part in showcases. He has been performing more or less every week ever since. “
Connor was gifted a guitar for Christmas but the youngster did not start playing the instrument until around three years ago.
He found his voice soon after and since then he has been taking the Scottish music scene by storm with shows across the central belt.
Tricia said: “It has been three years since he started the guitar, the singing came afterwards. Originally he just played and he did not sing.
“He got the guitar one Christmas and did not bother with it to start with. But eventually he picked it up and he realized he was really good at it.
“I saw a video of him singing and playing guitar to residents at a care home and I thought that he was amazing. I think he realized from then he was quite good at it and that is what he wanted to do.”
Connor, who begins Bellshill Academy in August, counts Castlemilk star Gerry Cinnamon and Oasis amongst his influences.
He said: “I would love a career in music and I am buzzing to play the festival.”
Tricia added: “He likes to play live and he has his own wee style. It makes him happy and we enjoy going to the gigs.”
Connor will also play EH6 Leith on Sunday, November 25 as well as a headline show at The Classic Grand on October 14.
