RANGERS, Aberdeen and Hibernian will this morning find out what lies in wait should they progress beyond the Europa League second qualifying round.

The Gers and Hibees saw off the challenge of Shukpi and Runavik in the opening round to set up clashes against Osijek and Asteras Tripolis respectively.

Meanwhile, the Dons enter the competition at the second round stage where they must find a way past Premier League outfit Burnley.

Rules of the draw

  • The clubs were ranked according to their coefficient (teams from ties yet to be played will take the coefficient of the seeded team in each) and further split into seeding groups.
  • Each side in each seeding group is allocated a number. Balls containing the seeded teams' numbers are placed in one bowl, with balls for the unseeded teams' numbers (within the same sub-group of clubs) in another.
  • A ball is taken from each bowl and put into a large empty bowl in the middle, where they are shuffled.
  • The clubs whose numbers correspond to the first ball drawn play their first game at home, against the sides whose numbers match the next ball drawn. The result of this draw therefore applies to groups 1 to 4.
  • The same procedure takes place for Group 5, with balls containing the seeded teams' numbers (1-6) placed in one bowl and balls for the unseeded teams' numbers (7-12) in another. The draw then proceeds as outlined above.
  • Clubs' coefficients are now determined EITHER by the sum of all points won in the previous five years OR by the association coefficient over the same period – WHICHEVER IS THE HIGHER (under a new system introduced for 2018/19 onwards).
