A BODY has been discovered in the sea of a popular tourist seaside resort.
The alarm was raised in Largs shortly after 7.15am today.
The Largs and Millport Herald reports that a body was removed from the sea. The man was 59-years-old.
Local inspector Colin Convery told our sister title: “I can confirm that a body has been removed from the sea near to the RNLI slip on Largs Promenade this morning.
“A call was received by Police Scotland this morning. Enquiry is ongoing to establish identity and circumstances. At this time, there is no knowledge of how long the deceased has been in the water.”
Police remained at the scene with an area of the promenade beach cordoned off as investigations were being carried out.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 7.20am on Monday, July 23, police were called to Greenock Road in Largs following a report of the body of a man in the water.
"Emergency services attended and the body of a 59-year-old man was recovered.
"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death however it is not being treated as suspicious.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
