ANIMAL welfare officers are appealing for information after a cat in poor condition was dumped in a carrier.

The Scottish SPCA described how how the cat was “very poorly” and was “covered in sick and faeces with long claws.”

The charity said the pet was found on Clark Street in Airdrie on July 16 and was alerted after a member of public found the cat on her doorstep.

Scottish SPCA inspector Jack Marshall said: “We’re hopeful someone will recognise her as we’d like to find out how she came to be in this state.

“She’s currently being cared for by the team at our centre in Lanarkshire where she’ll stay until we can find her a suitable loving home.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.

Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
