A GLASGOW pub could be in line for a facelift if new plans are approved later this year.
Drouthy’s, on Queen Street, could have the outside of its building revamped but must first gain listed building consent.
The building, which was the site of The Theatre Royal of 1804, is category A listed.
Owners Greene King want to redecorate the pub and put up modern illuminated signage and a new brass lantern at the entrance.
In a statement to the council’s planning department, the company said: “The development has been proposed as the building is due to be redecorated and the existing signs, due to their age and condition, do not support the development.
“The signs are generally on a like-for-like basis, so we would hope there would be no objections to the proposal.
“The existing signs would be removed, and all fixing made good. The exterior would then be repainted, and the new signs fitted in the same locations.”
In its plans the company wants to erect a new double-sided projecting sign with a Bellhaven header unit. That would have LED illumination built in and two spotlights from below would light it up.
A ‘traditional’ black brass lantern would be placed above the front door in a move that the company said would “give soft illumination to the entrance area for the safety of customers”.
And a new cast bronze Bellhaven door plaque and brass menu case will be installed around the entrance.
