A LUXURY Glasgow city centre development is bucking the trend for middle-age people who would traditionally look for retirement by the sea.
The plush Park Quadrant residences have seen homeowners swap large, suburban homes for the new development close to the bustling heart of Glasgow.
Buyers have come from a wide range of backgrounds but, developers say, a significant number are heading back to town once their children have flown the nest and are opting for luxury living in the West End.
Prices at the residences start at a staggering £410,000 which includes underground parking, private terraces and lift access, but councillor for the area Ken Andrew believes it is the location which is attracting those over 55.
Mr Andrew said: “I think the move from the suburbs reflects lifestyle changes and the desire for the café culture that individuals with disposable income seek.
“This particular site in the West End is close to the park, Finnieston, Byres Road, Great Western Road and not forgetting Woodlands itself, while also in easy walking distance of the city centre; it’s not difficult to see why these properties would be attractive to the new urbanites.”
Among the reasons cited for middle-aged buyers flocking to the area include parents’ desire to leave their empty nest and make a new start, as well as slashing bills with new energy efficient properties and the ease of having less maintenance.
Director Carole Mackie said the change of pace proves today’s downsizers have no intention of slowing down.
She said: “They want a home that suits their active lifestyle and Park Quadrant Residences offers the perfect mix of space, luxury and convenience in the ideal location.
“With this market looking for security, which is less about personal safety and more about the owners’ aspirations to lock and leave and travel the world, the exclusive residence manager, comparable to a high-end London or Manhattan apartment, is also a very attractive feature of the development.”
Constructed by Ambassador Developments (Park Quadrant Ltd), Park Quadrant Residences is a collection of 98 luxurious apartments, duplexes and penthouses designed to complete Victorian architect Charles Wilson’s 19th century vision for the area.
The range of apartments, duplexes and penthouses offer something for everyone and the duplex style apartments in particular, set over two levels are appealing to those who do not want to sacrifice the sense of living in a house and empty-nesters who may have frequent guests. They also satisfy a desire for outside space, with private gardens to the front and private terraces to the rear.
Gordon Coster, Director at Ambassador Developments Park Quadrant Limited, said: “The unique combination of apartments, penthouses and duplexes at Park Quadrant Residences, means there is a style of home to appeal to the aspirations of all buyers.
“Downsizers in particular who no longer require a large family home in the suburbs are drawn to the scale and contemporary luxury in the sought-after city location.”
The marketing suite is open 11am to 6pm Monday and Friday, 11am to 7pm Thursday and 11am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. For more details, visit pqresidences.com.
