FRIED crickets are on the menu as Glasgow’s very first festival dedicated to cocktails and homegrown DJs prepares to launch.

Casual Asian restaurant, Nonya, will kick off Glasgow Cocktail Weekend - a showcase of the city’s best bars, drinks and live music performances - with a three-course, Eastern tasting experience.

Starting with the daring fried crickets in ginger, lemongrass and kaffir lime, the sharing menu is set to take daring diners on an authentic culinary journey across Southeast Asia.

Speaking of the menu, Nonya head chef, Gina Hopkins, described how she wanted to create a refreshingly authentic menu many would expect to eat on the streets of Thailand.

She said: “Everything we use is locally sourced, where possible, authentically flavoured Thai, Malay and Chinese true to regions.

“This is our first intimate dining experience and we’re excited to kick off the Glasgow Cocktail Weekend with such an interesting event that matches Asian dishes with unusual cocktail serves.”

The evening is prices at £40 per person and two sittings are available on Thursday, August 9.

Running from August 9 to 12, Glasgow Cocktail Weekend will give cocktail lovers the chance to sample over 100 signature £5 drinks and attend masterclasses in 30 of the city’s top venues.

There is also a jam-packed live music programme with four intimate performances from Glasgow DJs that sell out internationally, with some playing sets in the illustrious backdrop of the top two floors of the Rotunda.
