DEMOLITION of the notorious Ned Shed has ended months of misery for nearby householders in Drumchapel.
Community Safety Glasgow revealed crime reports have fallen since it was dismantled in May.
The Ned Shed was a metal shelter where antisocial youths congregated to drink and wreak havoc.
While CSG says the crime has not spread elsewhere, Councillor Paul Carey believes it may have.
He said: “The very small number of individuals that cause this anti-social behaviour in Southdeen park have moved to other locations within the community.
“For example the under-fives play area and Drumchapel park was vandalised I believe by the same youths that was involved in the Southdeen youth shelter.”
The Ned Shed was torn down by Glasgow City Council to stop it being used as a drinking den following popular local demand.
Out of control youths have been setting fire to wheelie bins, attacking residents and engaging in a range of criminal activities.
Fuelled by drink and drugs, they had been a nightmare for residents surrounding the popular park.
Residents even reported smashed upturned bottles planted in the ground for children and dogs to be impaled by.
It is understood to be the same troop of youths responsible for firing a makeshift cannon loaded with illegally-procured fireworks at police and revellers during Winterfest last year.
G15 Youth Group has been working with many of the young people and has had its actions praised by Community Safety Glasgow and Mr Carey.
A CSG spokeswoman said: “G15 Youth Project has been working with young people in the area on a Summer and Winter Programme, supported by CSG.
“G15 have advised that they have addressed the issues Councillor Carey refers to with the young people in respect of vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
“If young people are identified as being involved in ASB within the area CSG will work with Police Scotland and housing providers to address the issues.
“Police Scotland have been involved in sessions with young people and G15, and are also patrolling the area.”
Mr Carey has gone a step further and demanded the youths be driven from the estate by reviewing the terms of their lease with housing providers.
He said: “If any of these individuals are caught by the police and charged and convicted I will be asking the housing associations to review their tenancy.
“If they stay in a private let I will be asking the council lawyers what other action is open to us as a Council to deal with these individuals.”
