A BOUNCER who was slashed several times by a thug wearing a balaclava has thanked ambulance staff who came to his aid.
Andrew Docherty, 25, was working the door of the Old Bank Bar in Greenock last month when his masked attacker struck.
He said: “I received three lacerations to my leg, one laceration to my left check and my nose was also sliced.
“The person was wearing a balaclava. I am lucky to be alive.”
An ambulance crew from Greenock station was quickly dispatched by David O’Neill, after the call was taken by David Hendry.
Andrew said: “The paramedics were great – they were fantastic.
"They kept me calm, they spoke to me. It was horrible – first time I have been attacked with a weapon. My nose was bust open.
“I am just thankful they got there when they did. It could have been a hell of a lot worse. A lot was going through my mind, I was panicking, but the paramedics were just so calm, even in the ambulance.”
Andrew was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital to be treated.
The Scottish Ambulance Service shared the story on their social media and said that police are still carrying out inquiries into the incident.
