ASBESTOS has been found in the derelict school building that went on fire in the south west of Glasgow on Monday.
More than 40 firefighters in six fire engines and four support vehicles rushed to battle the huge blaze at the former Howford Primary School in Crookston at around 4pm.
Locals feared asbestos was in the air after Police Scotland urged residents to “close your windows.”
Now, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the fibers - which can cause lung tissues to scar - was found within sections of the vacant building.
An SFRS spokesman said that crews were still in attendance at the fire almost 24 hours on.
He added: “At its height, around 40 firefighters and eight appliances were mobilised to the scene after the alarm was raised at 3.49pm on Monday, June 30.
“Two people were evacuated from a neighbouring property as a precaution.
“There were no casualties.
“A single fire engine remains at the scene to dampen down remaining hotspots.”
