A GOVAN DJ is preparing for the release of his first single which is named after the Glasgow area he grew up in.
Neil Hood, who has been in a DJ in clubs all over the city, will launch his first single Viva La Govan on August 3 via a brand new label, Cave Crab Records.
The 35-year-old, who has worked as a DJ for two decades, only started producing music in the last year.
Ahead of the single release, which was also produced by David Grant, he said: “I went on a course to learn how to produce because I have DJ for 20 years but I have never produced before.
“I came up with this tune that I really liked. I started talking to my mate David Grant and I asked him to listen because he has produced stuff for years.
“I sent the track over and he said it was really good, and he wouldn’t mind doing with me.”
Neil is one of the pioneers behind the creative music hub SM Studios which was launched in Shawlands to give rising stars a chance to learn vital skills needed to produce music and perform as a DJ.
With the studios, which are also ran by Victoria’s Nightclub legendary resident DJ Stuart McLean, GBX producer Mark Anderson Sparkos and producer David Rogers, proving to be a success, he has decided to focus on his own career behind the decks.
Neil said: “Once the track was mastered, we sent it out to different labels. We went with this label Cave Crab Records because they promised us exposure online. It is a brand new label and we are one of the first artists to be on it - so we thought that would be good for us.”
He added: “I have always said that if I ever made a tune, I would always put Govan in because that is where I am from.”
The track is best described as tech-house and Neil said he was conscious of making a song which he would play himself.
He added: “It started off as a house tune but gradually it changed towards more tech-house which is quite popular.
“I have sent the song to a few DJs already who have played it. I have played it myself and the reception has been good.”
The single will be released on all digital channel.
Neil is also djing at an event in aid of the charity The Fairybox Rainbow Appeal. He will be joined by the likes Zander Nation on September 7 at the Classic Grand.
