THE former site of the Dennistoun Post Office has been put up for sale.

The B-listed building, which dates back to 1750, is located on the north side of Duke Street at its junction with Westercraigs.

A closing date of Thursday August 23 has been put on the sale of the two storey Edwardian sandstone townhouse.

Offers in excess of £160,000 are invited for the property which was bought by Alexander Dennistoun, the eldest son of a successful merchant family, in the 19th century.

Mr Dennistoun wanted to build a residential suburb and employed architect James Salmon to produce a masterplan of the area with villas, terraces and gardens.

Annfield Place was among the first streets built and had the first range of self-contained houses in the district, which is named after Mr Dennistoun.

A campaign was launched to stop the sale of the post office back in December 2016.

Workers staged a strike in a dispute over jobs, closures and pensions.

Plans to relocate the office were confirmed earlier this year with the previous branch moving to vacant retail premises, previously Market Gallery, at 322-324 Duke Street.
