A man was seriously assaulted in Paisley yesterday evening after fighting with a different man. 

At around 9pm on Friday, the 35-year-old was in Morven Avenue, when he became invovled in an altercation with a man. 

During this incident, a third man approached and seriously assaulted the victim.

Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he received treatment for a head injury.

He has since been released.

Police are now looking for anyone who may have spotted the attack to come forward.

The suspect is white, wearing a red and black striped top and dark coloured trousers.

Officers are reviewing CCTV images for any information which could assist their enquiries and have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Craig Riddell said: “We are trying to piece together the exact circumstances of what has happened.

"At this stage, the motive for the attack is unclear and I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us.

"This is a mainly residential area and I’m sure there are a number of people who witnessed the incident. If anyone has any information or knowledge as to who is responsible for this attack, I would urge them to contact police and pass their information on.”
