Concern is mounting for a vulnerable teenager who left his Lanarkshire home in the middle of the night.

Matthew Parker was last seen leaving his home in Westcraigs, High Blantyre, around 4am on Monday.

The 16-year-old is thought to have boarded a train heading for Dalmuir but could have got off at any station in between.

The teenager has been dealing with personal issues recently, causing his family to become increasingly concerned for his wellbeing.

Matthew is described as white, approx. 5ft 8 in height, of medium build and has short dark hair. He was wearing a black ‘North Face’ Jacket, black ‘North Face’ t-shirt, black trousers and black trainers.

Sergeant Billy Sloan from Hamilton Police Office, said: “We have an unconfirmed sighting of Matthew at Hamilton Railway Station around 0550 hours this morning where he got on a train heading for Dalmuir.

"Obviously he could have got off at any station in between and we are liaising with our BTP colleagues in that respect, however, we would appeal to anyone who was on that train along that route to see if they remember seeing him on that journey and maybe where he got off.

“We have also been speaking to his family who say that for him to be out of touch for this period of time is not like him, hence the cause for their concern. We all just want to know that Matthew is safe and well.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows Matthew, or who may have seen him since Monday morning, to call officers at Hamilton Police Office via 101, quoting incident number 0620 of Monday 6 August or email lanarkshiremissingpersons@scotland.pnn.police.uk ”
