Police were scrambled to a prison after reports several cars had been set on fire in a car park and masked men were seen wielding a gun.
Officers and fire crews rushed to HMP Birmingham after two men were spotted fleeing the scene in a vehicle outside the Category B men's jail.
Two fire engines attended the prison to extinguish several fires after at least ten vehicles were set ablaze on an outside car park in the Winson Green area of the city.
West Midlands Police tweeted: "We are responding to an incident on a car park outside Birmingham prison where several cars have been set on fire.
"There are no reported injuries.
"Two masked men, reportedly armed with a firearm, were seen to make off in a vehicle.
"More information to follow when we have it."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We currently have two fire engines in attendance at what is believed to be a fire involving vehicles in a car park at HMP Birmingham."
