JON FLANAGAN admits his relationship with Steven Gerrard has changed since he became his boss this summer.
The defender was a team-mate of Gerrard’s for several years at Liverpool before the Anfield legend moved on to LA Galaxy.
But the pair have been reunited at Ibrox after Flanagan put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Gers following his Reds exit.
Flanagan said: “I think he’s bound to change. I think he’s the gaffer now. He’s not Steven to me anymore.
“He’s come in, he’s done really well. He’s had a little taste of it at Liverpool but all the lads are really enjoying it and I think he’s done a good job so far.
“He’s the manager and I’m the player now. It’s not as it was as when we were both players. But I think he’s doing a great job and I hope it continues.”
Flanagan has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox and slotted in to a left-back berth in the opening weeks of the campaign.
But he was switched to the other flank for the win over St Mirren as Borna Barisic was handed his debut following his move from Osijek.
Flanagan said: “It was [more natural at right-back]. It was a bit more comfortable on that side but I’ll play anywhere.
“I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been here about two months and I think the team are gelling well together.
“It’s always good to have competition, it’s a long season. I think everyone is going to be needed and we’re all going to have to ready when called upon.”
Flanagan will have to watch on this week as Rangers look to overcome Maribor and book their place in the Europa League play-off round.
And the 25-year-old is confident the Gers won’t take anything for granted as they head to Slovenia with a 3-1 advantage to their credit.
Flanagan said: “I think the manager has installed that in all the players and staff. We’ve got to go there and be mentally right.
“The job is only half done. We’ve got a little bit of belief. They’re still dangerous and we have to be ready to go over there and get the tie done.”
