ALAN STUBBS was frustrated St Mirren couldn’t take advantage of Rangers going down to ten men as they suffered their first Premiership defeat this term.
Goals from Alfredo Morelos and Connor Goldson had Steven Gerrard’s side in control after just 24 minutes at Ibrox.
But the dismissal of midfielder Ross McCrorie for a foul on Nicolai Brock-Madsen gave the Buddies hope of fighting their way back into the top flight encounter.
A Danny Mullen effort that clipped Allan McGregor’s bar was as close as Stubbs’ side would come to breaching the Light Blues’ defence as they struggled to assert themselves in the final third.
St Mirren were left with nothing to show for their efforts and boss Stubbs was disappointed not to ask more questions of the Gers given their man advantage for an hour.
He said: “The main thing we come away with is that we gave Rangers goals. Listen it is tough enough as it is when you come to Ibrox and try to get a result but we’ve gifted Rangers two goals. That’s what makes it even more disappointing.
“There were two lapses in concentration and that has cost us. The second off also changes the game but we didn’t capitalise on that.
“The one thing when you come to the big grounds you sometimes need a little bit of a rub of the green and we just didn’t get that.
“It would be interesting to see what would have happened had we scored a goal in terms of how the atmosphere might have changed. But we probably didn’t do enough.
“Danny Mullen hit the crossbar and on another day that might go in. They are the things you need to fall for you in these games but I can’t fault the players’ effort or attitude. It’s the one thing they will give me all the time. It wasn’t to be.”
