GLASGOW and its surrounding areas are set for a week of wet weather misery as heavy downpours and blustery winds prepare to batter Scotland.
The bad weather comes as parts of southern Britain have been issued with “severe” weather warnings, cautioning them to prepare for floods and thunderstorms.
The Met Office said Glasgow will be mostly cloudy with occasional light rain and drizzle throughout most of Monday.
The weather service added :”Tuesday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, heaviest and most persistent through Argyll, with light or moderate southwesterly winds.”
The outlook for Wednesday to Friday is the least positive as the city and its surrounding areas are being urged to prepare for wet and windy weather from the middle of the week.
It will be bright with blustery showers on Thursday, occasionally heavy, and then cloudy with rain on Friday, accompanied by strong winds.
Luke Miall, a Met Office forecaster, said: “We’ve got some unsettled weather continuing for the next few days.
“Quite a contrast really to what much of this summer has seen across the UK.”
Elsewhere in the UK, thunderstorms are set to bring “intense downpours” to the east of England.
Weather warnings have been issued pointing out there is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded.
The Met Office alert is in place until 10pm on Sunday night, and a second warning is in place from 11am until 10pm on Monday.
Areas covered by the warnings are the East Midlands, north west England, south west England, Wales, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.
Torrential rain is possible and as much as 20 to 30mm of rain could fall in an hour, or 40mm in two to three hours.
Lightning, hail and gusty winds may also result in some disruption.
