LASSANA COULIBALY has been a breath of fresh air in the middle of the park for Rangers and he looks like being the player that has been needed at Ibrox for quite a while.
He looks like a Rino Gattuso sort of player. I am not saying he is there ability wise or that he is as good as Rino, but he is in that sort of mould with his workrate and his style.
He is not scared to put his foot in and Rangers have missed that recently. They have been too much of a soft touch in the middle of the park.
That engine room is where so many games are won and lost and that is why you see so many teams go with three players in there to try and win that battle.
Under Walter Smith, if we went with two he would say ‘well, you might be against three, but just deal with it. If you are a man down, get on with it’.
What Coulibaly gives for the team is unreal and I am not surprised to see how quickly the supporters have taken to him this season.
Signings like that show you just how important recruitment is and that is something that, on what we have seen so far, Rangers have done well this summer.
It is about trying to find those rough diamonds and Steven and Mark Allen deserve credit for the deals that have been done so far.
Coulibaly has been outstanding since the start of the season, he has been Rangers’ best player so far and he makes them tick when he is playing. But I still think he can kick on and there is more to come as he develops his game and matures.
