THERE will be tears and tantrums as Glasgow’s new cohort of primary ones are waved off at the gates.
And that’s just the mums and dads.
Last year there were 75 sets of twins among the new starts and this year looks to set a similar record with more than 6000 new pupils in all.
Eoin and Declan Smith, Dylan and Gabriella Mushens, and Rohaan and Amjad Hayyan – all five – will have teachers seeing double at Tinto Primary.
At secondary level, nearly 5000 pupils will be taking the leap from primary seven up to first year.
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills & Early Years said: “Starting school is always an emotional time for everyone involved but it’s the start of a very exciting journey.
“Parents and carers can be assured our schools are nurturing havens and children are at the heart of everything that we do.
“Teachers and staff in Glasgow schools are committed, dedicated professionals who want every child to be the very best they can be.”
Meanwhile, in Renfrewshire, a third set of twins from the same family are preparing for their first day at school.
Twin girls Rowan and Isla Rodger made headlines after their birth in 2013, following on from older brothers Lewis and Kyle born in 1998, and Finn and Jude in 2001.
The chances of three sets of twins for mother Karen and husband Colin were said to be 500,000 to one and they are now waving them off to their first day at school after a “blurry” five years.
The girls will follow in the footsteps of their older brothers when they start primary one at Langbank Primary School.
Mrs Rodger, 47, said: “It is so emotional seeing the girls in their uniforms and off to start their school adventure.
“I think we were all bubbling but the girls have been so excited to start school, I think because they know their brothers went here.”
Langbank Primary head teacher Simon Cundy said: “We are delighted to welcome the third set of twins from the Rodger family.”
