ON the street, reaction was largely in favour of the 4am extension although there was concern about the potential for trouble.

Forty-eight-year-old Lynne Russell, a consultant from Glasgow, thought it was a good idea.

She said: "I think that they should be open till then. It gives young people some place to go at night and gets them off the street.”

Evita Sternberger, 28, a retail worker, said she supported the plans.

She added: “I think it’s a good idea. I’m from Europe where we can party till 6am. There is trouble at 2am and 3am, so trouble will not be bigger at 4am.”

Nineteen-year-old Megan Ginnelly, a student, thought it could bring more jobs to the city.

She added: "I don’t see it causing more trouble.”

Evie Parker, 19, from Townhead, was also in favour. She said: "I do like a night out. There wouldn’t be anymore issues than there are already. The problems happen when places close. So, it doesn’t matter if it closes at 1 or 2."

And Peter Fraser, 66, from Linwood, said: “It doesn’t affect me, but yes, it wouldn’t do any harm. It would open the place up.”

But Ryan Gallagher, 24, of Bishopbriggs, was more cautious. “I don’t drink much, but it probably would cause some trouble- it’s Glasgow,” he said.
