THERE has been a lot of flak aimed at Jack Hendry in the last couple of weeks, but I think it is unfair.
He’s 23 and while that is not young in footballing terms, he lacks experience at the top level. The fault doesn’t lie with Hendry for the defeat in Athens, but with Celtic’s defending collectively.
Brendan Rodgers described the goals Celtic lost as soft. That was being kind. If you lose goals like that, you don’t deserve to go through.
Looking beyond the goals, they were actually a little bit unlucky not to turn it around. If they had another five minutes, they probably would have.
Would it have been different in Athens had the defence been strengthened? Very possibly. Some of these same players were making these mistakes long before Jack Hendry was on the scene.
